I love technology. Sometimes too much. In fact, I if I had the time, I would plan at least half of my class time around tech based learning. We are currently in the process of redesigning the writing curriculum for both AP tract students and regular ed. students. In the the vein of designing this writing course for vocational/regular ed. tract students, it was discussed that some students need extra education concerning basic/technical writing skills. Such as....writing a letter. For some bizarre reason, this is not a practiced art.
Bizarre reason=email, text, etc.
But, in order to obtain an interview, or to have you application looked at, sometimes a person needs to send a letter. Students love to work on those Microsoft apps that create documents. They REALLY do. As long as they are given a valid reason to do so. Thus, we have discussed teaching the mail merge option in this particular writing class. I really think it will make this whole process more efficient for the student, and maybe...just maybe..... in turn....Student A. will send out more than one application (with a well written letter) and will receive more than one interview that will amount to more than one job offer!
